On Sunday 1 November 2015, a multidisciplinary team from Mountain Rise SAPS, Crime Intelligence and the HAWKS followed up on intelligence with regards to the flow of CAT and crack cocaine infiltrating the northern suburbs in the Woodlands residential area.

On Sunday 1 November 2015, a multidisciplinary team from Mountain Rise SAPS, Crime Intelligence and the HAWKS followed up on intelligence with regards to the flow of CAT and crack cocaine infiltrating the northern suburbs in the Woodlands residential area. Police held observation on the suspect’s premises before swooping on the suspect at 21:00. Police recovered a large quantity of CAT, jaws of crack cocaine, cocaine powder as well as utensils used in the manufacturing and distribution process. The seized drugs have an estimated street value of R500,000-00. A search was conducted of the entire house and R60,000-00 in cash was seized from the premises. A 40-year-old suspect was arrested and charged for being in possession of illegal substances. The suspect will appear in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrates Court soon.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended police on the arrest. “Drug dealing is destroying the moral fibre of our society and we will do everything that is within our control to ensure that the suspect is brought to book,” she said.
