On Saturday, 03 October 2015 at about 17:30, a 68-year-old man, who was the driver of a Blue BMW, was arrested in Kimberley near Greenpoint following an accident whereby a two-year-old boy was killed.

The accident occurred in Dutch Reform Street and the boy died on the scene. Kimberley police immediately arrested the suspect and he is facing a charge of culpable homicide, reckless and negligent driving, as well as driving under the influence of alcohol.

The man will appear in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court this week. The police extend condolences to the family of the deceased child. The police would also like to send a strong message to people that would be found to be contravening the law, whether on the roads or anywhere in the community that they will face the strong arm of the law, especially during this festive season. Drivers are advised to drive with care as children are on their school holidays and are more likely to be found playing next to the roads. In addition, pedestrians need to be very cautious when walking next to the roads.
