Hartbeespoort Crime Prevention police, in conjunction with the detectives and Crime Intelligence Unit cracked a notorious housebreaking gang. The six gang members were arrested in their hideout area in Mmakau policing area during the early hours of Monday, 12 October 2015. This comes after a number of housebreaking and robbery cases were reported recently in the Skeerpoort farming area of Hartbeespoort. Several farm houses were allegedly broken into by this gang.

The gang is suspected to consist of nine members in their late twenties and early thirties, three are still at large. During the arrest of the six, police recovered suspected stolen goods to the value of thousands of rands. So far the gang is positively linked to seven incidents where homeowners were robbed at gunpoint. The team also confiscated a toy-gun which is suspected to have been used during the commission of these crimes. Items such as a crowbar and a ball cutter, were also confiscated.

The men will appear in the Brits Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday,14 October 2015, on charges of housebreaking and possession of suspected stolen goods.
