n the early hours of 30 September 2015, members of the Ethekwini Outer South Crime Intelligence and the Cavendish Mobile Team recovered four firearms and arrested three suspects, aged between 46 and 18, at KwaMakhutha and its surrounding areas.

n the early hours of 30 September 2015, members of the Ethekwini Outer South Crime Intelligence and the Cavendish Mobile Team recovered four firearms and arrested three suspects, aged between 46 and 18, at KwaMakhutha and its surrounding areas.

A crime intelligence operation was conducted at KwaMkhutha and surrounding areas looking for illegal firearms. The operation started at the KwaMakhutha area where the members, acting on information sourced by Crime intelligence, searched a house and recovered a 9mm Star pistol with three live rounds. When the firearm was circulated it was discovered that it was taken at KwaMakhutha in a business robbery.

A 40-year-old suspect was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The members moved to another place at Illovo where they arrested a 27-year-old suspect who was found in possession of a shotgun with 86 live rounds, a 303 rifle and two air rifles. 138 live rounds for the R1 rifle were also recovered.

The last suspect (18) was arrested at the Felikisi area after he was found in possession of a 9mm pistol.

All the firearms will be sent for ballistic testing to ascertain if they were used in the commission of other crimes.

All arrested suspects have appeared in the Mbumbulu Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

The KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended the police on the arrests and the recovery of firearms.

“I encouraged the community to continue providing information to the police that will lead to the recovery of illegal firearms and ammunition”, she said.
